GenXer, thanks but that doesn't cover The Great Inflation. It appears to only go back to 1993. It would need to go back to 1965 in order to demonstrate how CDs performed during the most recent bought of high inflation in the US.

True, I agree. I thought there was longer data than that, but I guess I was wrong. Still, I prefer to get what I see and to understand what I'm buying. I think another way of asking this question is what actually goes into a 1,3 and 5-year CDs, and how banks contstruct these. I suspect they use government securities of sorts as a basis. Knowning which ones and how much should allow us to see the correlation of CDs to say short or intermediate treasuries performance.
