I understand the purpose of affordable housing and agree that we need to have it in places. What I don't understand is why those units have to be the same as the ones people are paying $700k for. I don't qualify for the affordable units and I can't afford the market price for the non-affordable ones. Is their goal really to make sure that only poor and wealthy people can afford housing? |

Towns like Lexington don't want middle class housing; God forbid that people with kids move into town and crowd up their school system. Only rich people (and enough affordable housing to comply with state law) need apply.
I really think tax base and school concerns drive many of these problems. |

So why don't they just raise taxes then? Oh right that would hurt home values. |
