Visualizing job losses

Its basically a heat map of job losses by month since 2007. An observation of mine is that there is correlation between cost of living and job losses. I also noticed that northern CA , NY, and Arlington remained strong up until recently, demonstrating that losses on Wall Street and in government haven't been that significant. Starting in Dec 2008, though, unemployment has really escalated.

Given that our discussions have focused on unemployment as the driving factor for bringing down home prices and that there's a lag time to the effect on housing, I think that the time bomb started in Dec '08. What's the reserve of people in immune towns? Up to 12months maybe? It will be interesting to see what happens this Fall. Interest rates do seem to continue falling.

Isn't that due to unusual manipulation (Fed buying long term treasuries)? If so, how long will it last? How long does the Fed want it to last and how long will the market allow it to last?
