Thanks for the note of caution. Indeed, having been an apartment dweller I know what it is like to share walls and floors. Since I've been on the top floor for many years I've been fortunate to not have to hear people walking above. So a top floor is on my list. Being in the city, I have had to deal with loud, irrational neighbors in the building next door. The idea of a condo definitely does give me pause but with the right building, it could be workable. And yes, the condo fees scare me as well. The idea of a heavy smoker living near me really gives me pause.

Crazy people are sadly, EVERYwhere. Inconsiderate, rude people abound as well. My brother lives out Route 2 in the woods on a dirt road, bought 30+ years ago. You cannot see another house from where he is situated. A couple of years ago a bunch of loud, redneckish types moved into a house down the hill, with four wheelers and parties that went into the night, ruining his peace and quiet. Even in a single family house in the woods, one can encounter unpleasant and unreasonable people!

Ok, now I'm thinking single family again. A small one that hopefully does not need much work! I liked this one but alas, it sold within a couple of days:
