If your kid works at the DPW and starts at age 18 and works until he is 43 he can qualify for 80% of his $65k salary or get a permanent check for $52k per year with cost of living adjustments and Health Care.
Having $52k per year is like having $1M in the bank and living off 5% interest cash flow. |
John, I think there's something called 'eating one's cake, etc' but in this case, being able to attend [ A, B, C] high school for that exorbitant mortgage doesn't seem to make sense, as in the real world, no one cares about high school esp if that doesn't get you into Johns Hopkins medical school.
The homeschooling/community college classes, plus Harvard Extension for the final 2 yrs can get one into the NSA and from there, if you're really an academic type, you'll get some money for a part-time masters at Columbia, Chicago, or Georgetown. And thus, you have a prestigious federal job and a lot of money stashed away. |

go to page 29 of 68 on this link:

Sorry, my numbers are way off; in Massachusetts, the age in which you retire is a huge factor. Forget the DPW and do the NSA thing
A Veteran retiring at 68 making $36k gets $28.8k a year in retirement.
A Non-Veteran at age 45 making $30.15k gets $3,015k |

The Non Veteran gets a measly $3,015 per year for 20 years of service with a high three of $30,150; that kind of sucks. |

Speaking of which, the prices around Ft Meade Maryland, their biggest nearby national HQ, are still declining.
Here's a place in Jesseup MD ...

Considering that an NSA job is pretty close to being guaranteed for life, there isn't much of a risk with prices between $250-$350K. Plus, being between Baltimore & DC has its advantages. |
