This article is actually one of my key arguments against today's higher education.

My question to all the so-called honors graduate types is that on the average... don't the best students simply read the books/articles, do the homeworks, take the exams, and work meticulously on the projects and thus, graduate with the best marks?

If so, then the only purpose of the college is access to CO-OPs/internships and undergraduate research to enhance one's portfolio. I suspect that all of the aforementioned can be done at significantly reduced prices via part-time online offerings (or London University online for the namesake), volunteer work at places like Shriner's Burn Ctr, etc.

Thus, there will be a point in the future where the annual cost exceeds that of a median working professional salary (circa ~$80K) and that's when the system will start to dissolve as middle class attendants start to find their own way and the schools becoming finishing grounds for the world's wealthy.
