Just to expand a little on this because I thought it was a really interesting pair of stories.
The first is about balancing the budget in New York. It has a lot of people with different views trying to act responsibly but being shut down by people who really have not thought it through.
The second is about cuts agreed to and made in 30 years ago in Barbados. How they were agreed on and how they worked out (well). It also shows how Jamaica was in the same situation and took a different path ending badly. |

Humans really do stink at sticking to budgets, whether at a personal level or cultural. Some cultures seem to manage but it seems the larger the country the harder it becomes. Anyone buying Norwegian currency? |
