http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2008/04/13/homing_in/
I don't want to comment what they are saying about "great" opportunity for first-time buyers now: Globe is a well-known for being lapdog of real estate industry.
What really shocked me in their article is their income statistics!
They claim that income in Greater Boston area grew from $73K in 2000 to... $94K in 2007!
Can you belive it?????
We all live here! So, do you feel that salaried here jumped by almost 30%????
How many friends do you have that have those "average income" of 94K?
I was looking to change my job recently, I checked proposed salaries, but I don't have feelings that they jumped up significantly!
Yea, I can find salary around $100,000 in Boston, but I'm experienced senior level IT specialist, and my salary is above the average income they claim! And this is well-known fact that IT salaries are 20-30% higher than average.
Opinions, thoughts?

That's a household income figure, not individual income.

A decline in population would probably affect the median income. If people earning below the median move away, the median income will rise even if no individual family's income changes (which isn't to say that individual incomes haven't changed at all - this is just an example). Massachusetts' population has been declining, so if it is families below the median who have been leaving (which would make sense), that would probably account for some portion of the increase in the median income.

Dear Admin, I've got your point.
However, if you try to browse Internet you will find completely differnt numbers that are far far LESS than what Globe reffers to!

That's household income figure, no way it could be 94k. I searched few towns, 60k-80k look more likely.
