Can they still get loans? I thought the private mortgage market was dead? |

I doubt it's dead. Jumbo rates are still hovering around 6% in Massachusetts, and jumbos are by definition above the limit that the government will back, so I assume that these are privately backed. This isn't to say that private mortgages are limited to jumbos, either - that's just the first counterexample that came to mind right away.
