Thanks John for the info. I didn't know where to drill hole is important. This is why I need a structural engineer. I told the guy insects damage wood not only by making holes. That's why it is suggested to use a screwdriver to probe wood. I also showed him some larger holes.
I am thinking about using a borescope to inspect hidden area but not sure where I can find such a service. |

I had a structural engineer look at it and he said it does need repair. Then I called the inspection company several times and they always put me to a voice mail and never returned my call.
So I filed a claim against the inspector's insurance policy. This made them call me. When I returned his call, he asked how I got their insurance
company and who was the structural engineer I hired. He was saying if I don't give the information to him by Monday, he will tell the insurance company to deny my claim.
I think he was bluffing and I'll ask written requests from both his insurance company and him. |

Tell him he had his chance to deal with you directly and you were patient with him. Further, it was only after several attempts that you realized that he wasn't going to deal with you fairly so you had no choice. Most importantly, tell him that there are other options you have that would be much more costly to him in the long run and the choice is his as to how this situation comes to resolution. Lastly, tell him that you wouldn't be as persistent if you weren't confident that you were on good footing and if he took the time to dial into the situation, he might come to the same conclusion, so it behooves him to take measure of the situation before you have to take additional steps. |

Thanks John. I sent a fax and left a message with the insurance company asking them to notify me if they need both piece of information. They did the inspection and I suffered a loss. I don't think they can deny my claim just because the insured wants to deny a claim. At this point I'd rather deal with the insurance firm. |

The insurance company says Tiger Home Inspection does not wish to settle. I asked why and got no response. I filed a BBB complaint and get a response saying "Although an unfortunate situation Tiger Home Inspection contends that Mr. XX's home is structurally sound. I have offered to return the entire fee paid to Mr. XX and that offer still stands the amount of the fee is 375.00".
This is the guy told me the 25% rule for holes in lumber without mentioning the position is important. He was trying to discredit the structural report. The truth is some rafters already have splits and my structural engineer says he stands by his recommendations and repairs as noted in the report.
So unless a house falls down, Tiger Home Inspection will consider it structurally sound and the best they can do is to refund your inspection fee:) |
