Here is an excerpt of an email I received a little while ago from john p:

Quote:

Here is a model I use to understand what the interest premium is as the interest rate changes. It shows that a house in the mid 500's has lost about 6% affordability based on rates a year ago and now. Before a buyer begins to gain traction in value they need to cover this 6%. I tried to get this posted but couldn't figure out the attach function. If you think this tool is useful to other readers you can post it.

The forums don't actually support attachments, but I have made John's spreadsheet available at http://www.bostonbubble.com/sup/bubblechart_from_john_20060501.xls For anybody else wondering about attachments, the spreadsheets that you may have noticed in places like the thread on buying a condo in Allston / Brighton / Brookline / Cambridge are actually screen captures of spreadsheets. You can learn how to include inline images in your posts in the BBCode guide under the item titled Adding an image to a post.

Thanks, admin. It might be nice if we could upload small images, too. I tried to, before, but copying and pasting had to suffice.

kenfeyl,

I just discovered the ImageShack image hosting service at http://imageshack.us/ I have never used this myself or seen it in action (at least that I am aware of), but it looks like it could be worth checking out. It is free and it looks like it's pretty easy to use. Right after you upload an image, they even give you the BBCode that you can cut and paste to display the image in a forum (including this one).
