Can anyone recommend a good, thorough home inspector that does the metrowest area? We've called two, and they no longer do it. Thanks!

We used Jim Abram, who was very, very good. I don't have his contact info on hand, but I think this is it:

http://www.bbb.org/boston/business-reviews/home-inspection-service/abram-company-in-beverly-ma-68241/

He's a super nice guy and very helpful. Our inspection was routine, but he saved a co-worker of my wife's from purchasing a lead paint legal disaster nightmare.

JCK,

I hope the link isn't to the inspector you are recommending, as the BBB has given him an F rating!

Thanks, though! We found one, and the inspection is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.

Mel,

The "F" rating is based on two complaints. I was very happy with him, but didn't report that to the BBB.

Maybe I have just been unlucky but I am just very disappointed by home inspectors in general. They can point some things out but cannot give any idea how much things will cost. Mostly they just seem to cover their own ass. The last guy flagged things that I could see myself but then just said I would need a plumber to actually tell me about urgency/price.
If I was doing it again I would just hire a plumber, electrician and structural engineer for an hour. If they found anything I'd ask for a written assessment/quote. It would cost about the same as an inspector but much more useful.

Jim Abram is far and away the best inspector in the business. He understands what a buyer needs to know and is excellent at communicating.
Seems that the complaints to BBB were made by other Home Inspectors

I agree. Jim is the best. After the inspection I was so taken with his professionalism that I asked him if he'd take my daughter's hand in marriage. He refused, like the gentleman he is, but that only served to increase opinion of him.
