- reasonable commute to Boston or Watertown
- not too large
- driveway and/or plenty of street parking
- no major or urgent repairs
- gas heat
- near cheap supermarkets
- small yard would be nice
- safe area
- good schools would be great too but i do not have kids right now so it isn't necessary and I know I'll be paying a lot for it

Am I asking too much for $250,000 to $275,000?

You might be able to get something in the Dorchester or Hyde Park neighborhoods of Boston. Safety in those areas is questionable and Boston schools are widely regarded as not very good.

Are you looking specifically for a SFH, because if not you can definitely get a condo for that price. Also, what is a reasonable commute for you?

If you want inside I-95, I would say look in Malden, Everett, and Revere; you could even have T access. On the south side of Boston, the neighborhoods the previous poster mentioned are good as well.

Cheapest supermarket that I'm aware of is Market Basket and is accessible from the 3 towns mentioned above.

There's actually one listing in Somerville currently for $250k, 44 Highland Ave.

I'm looking for a SFH. I'm not a big fanof paying condo fees.

A reasonable commute for me would be around 30 to 40 minutes by car.

Keep an eye on north reading. The market there seems to consist of 600k+ and 300k- Nothing in the middle really.

This one is closer to 300k than 200k.

Forgot to add, schools are good, safe area, less than an hour into downtown boston during rush hour or less than 30 min on a non rush hour. About 40 - 50 minutes to watertown during rush hour.

North Reading is ignored and hidden but abbutts Reading, Lynnfield, Middleton, Andover, North Andover, Wilmington and Wakefield.
