Hey folks,

Longtime troller, first time poster.

Well my family and I are pulling the plug on Boston and moving to Pittsburgh PA. I would classify us as the typical couple that the state pols say they are concerned about losing, but really arent. We are both mid thirties professionals, dual six figure incomes in software sales, and a newborn baby. Its not that we cant afford it, its more like why?

While we make more than most I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices for a POS with granite countertops and stainless appliances in the areas around Boston we want to live. I received a lucrative offer in Pittsburgh and we are on our way. We are excited to leave but disappointed as well. We love Boston, but its a simple cost/benefit ratio for us and with the baby we dont leverage the city like we used to.

I looked around Pittsburgh and the housing is affordable and amazing as far as what your money buys. Im a cheapskate naturally so we wont get the McMansion, but we will have a very nice home. For those of you who will say we are giving up a lot moving to Pittsburgh, you are right but not as much as you think. I have actually lived in both places before so we will miss the ocean and coastal towns the most, but Pittsburgh is a surprisingly cultured town.

Anyway, Ill keep everyone posted on our progress and how badly we miss Boston. I also will be excited to follow the updates on the market implosion in the greater Boston area over the next few years. I figure with the money we save Ill be able to visit the Boston area and enjoy it more as a tourist than I do as a resident.

E

Good luck with the move. I have heard that Pittsburgh is more reasonably priced than most US cities at present. Let us know how you find it this time around.

Thnak you. Ill keep you posted. I did want to say in reareading my post I sound a little arrogant. I apologize for that. I just wanted to make a point that Boston and Massachusetts are losing good people who pay a lot in taxes, good citizens, etc. due to the lack of proper planning by our pols. Hopefully that will change. Thanks for the kind words. We are moving on the 25th.

I hate to say it, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for the political status quo to change. I'm just waiting for the prices to come down ... and this definitely isn't a "great time to buy".
