"In Massachusetts, there are 65 unemployed construction and 24 jobless manufacturing workers for each available position, according to the study - a grimmer picture than the nation as a whole."

OK, if this is true, then someone please explain to me WHY it costs $200/sq ft to do home renovations, $90+/hr for plumber, $35/hr for a cleaner, and $75/hr for a handyman in the Boston area?????????!!!!!!!!!! Maybe all those unemployed construction and manufacturing workers should retrain for these positions??

Seriously! Are all these unemployed blue-collar workers waiting around for another Big Dig, or for manufacturing to magically re-appear in New England? TX and the South will only be able to absorb so many of them!

We could always pipe our water to TX Razz But they won't move there and that's part of the reason why housing remains expensive. They don't vote with their feet but rather for debt and entitlements.

I suspect those professions remain expensive because they are well protected. I also imagine that many of these workers would rather collect unemployment than touch your trash or overflown toilets.

If the government's offer is better than working for a lower wage, why get your hands dirty.

Unemployment
Housing Assistance
Healthcare
Food Vouchers

I am all for helping someone in their time of need but if you make it too cushy, there is no incentive to go back to work.

This goes for both Blue Collar and White Collar along with people that have children as a means of income compliments of uncle Sam.
