Recently visited Texas and thought I would post some shots for what it's like to live in these cities.
San Antonio
Houses shown in these pictures cost about $150k - $250k and are in prime school districts. I wasn't house shopping so you're primarily seeing only what I happened to be passing by, which is mostly the "older" part of the city. The fringe of the city is far more impressive (1604 loop). City is growing ridiculously fast and is a great place to live but not if you work in tech (medical, finance, and trade w/Latin America more popular).
Austin
Houses shown in these pictures cost about $350k - $450k and are also in prime school districts and near the JCC. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to hit much more than a few houses since I had a crying baby in the car. Austin has lots of tech businesses: according to Indeed, ~1k software engineer jobs here compared to ~3k in Boston but 1/4 the size so similar. Considered the liberal city of Texas hence shares some city planning problems like Boston. Also capital of Texas and considered to be the "ridiculously" expensive city. UT Austin at center of town, largest university in US (at times) and many depts are top10, hence all the companies in the area. |
